Organized by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and the Fundación Francisco Giner de los Ríos, the exhibition offers a panoramic unpublished Giner and project institucionista, that was not only educational. Education, conceived as an engine of social change, including the modernization of scientific and cultural and social reform.
The sample makes a path for the biography of Giner and its project renewal, which was developed through platforms such as the Museo Pedagógico Nacional (1882), the Institute of Social Reforms (1883) or the Board for Extension of Studies (1907), and their centers, including the Residence of Students. A second part of the exhibition deals with the validity and relevance of the proposal institucionista and its main signs of identity: innovation in education and in technical and scientific research, the defense of the environment and the culture as a heritage of all.
The exhibition can be seen until April 10, 2016, is the result of the work of many years of rescue documentary, often with the help of donations from families and individuals, and research and publications.
The 400 pieces from the exhibition (paintings, sculptures, documents, photos, films of that time, letters, furniture, toys, costumes, books, magazines, manuscripts, and other objects), some unpublished or very rare, coming from institutions like the Prado Museum, the Biblioteca Nacional, the Museu Nacional d'art de Catalunya (MNAC), the National Museum of Decorative Arts, the Sorolla Museum, or the Residence of Students, among others. Aureliano de Beruete, Joaquin Sorolla, Emilia Pardo Bazán, Federico García Lorca, Maruja Mallo, Benjamín Palencia, Alberto García-Alix, Eduardo Arroyo or Darío Villalba are some of the creators featured in the exhibition, all of them related, in one way or another, with the Institución Libre de Enseñanza.
