The Institución Libre de Enseñanza (ILE) is a training centre and a centre for reflection on the future of education, science and culture. It is committed to education as an essential factor for the autonomy and personal development of citizens and for the progress and welfare of society. It carries out studies and research projects, courses, seminars, conferences and debates with programmes that update the values linked to its tradition: appreciation and care for nature, defence of peace, human rights and intercultural respect, tolerance, dialogue and participation, equality, solidarity and inclusion.

This work is possible thanks to the Francisco Giner de los Ríos, created in 1916 to watch over the heritage of the Institution and at his time, to assure the continuity of the educational task started by maestro Giner. After his consolidation in the constitutional framework from 1978, the Foundation has allowed the ILE to develop and transform to the present, consolidating itself as the cultural centre of which we enjoy today.
