The ILE is developing a line of work on the legacy of the philosopher K. C. F. Krause (1781-1832). The seminars held both at the universities of Cambridge (2019), and Tübingen (2021) and at the ILE (2022) are highlighting the crucial contributions of the Krausist movement (led in Spain successively by Julián Sanz del Río and Francisco Giner) in the process of modernization of democracy in Europe and America, and in aspects such as the search for world peace, self-government as the basis of a new education of active citizens, to female empowerment, the defense of the rule of law or the protection of our natural environment.
The seminar, which will remember the contribution of Fernando de Castro, will offer a pooling of the research concerning the key role played by education in the construction and consolidation of a democratic citizenship.
