A time of huge political intensity, in which, after the uprising it sent Queen Isabel II into exile, several new regimes took place: a parlimentary monarchy, of Amadeo I, a republic with federal calling and an audit formula. The spanish people furthermore had to face up to civil and colonial wars until a cantonal uprising. The instability lived with, however with the start up of many projects of the modernisation of the country. The krausist intellectuals, future leaders of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza founded in 1876, represented a crucial role in that laboratory of ideas , in campaigns against slavery and teaching for women with legislative initiaves, at University and from some governing postions. This cycle gathers some of the best specialists to address the fundamental keys from that period and their legacy, of great interest for the Spain of today.
