This exhibition brings together a selection of current pictures of some of the institutions, places, and landscapes that form the Spanish geography of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, carried out by a group of photographers (Luis Asín, Luis Fernandez, Ferran Freixa, Ana Muller, Eduardo Sánchez, Esther Santás and Miguel Zavala) invited to participate in this project by the Fundación Francisco Giner de los Ríos.
They have been the object from the camera these creators the building of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza in Madrid, the headquarters of the Fundación Francisco Giner de los Ríos), the house of the Institution in the sierra de Guadarrama, the Fundación Sierra-Pambley -which led to the extension of the Institutes work to León, with their centers of León, Hospital de Órbigo and Villablino, as well as the Instituto Internacional en España, la Residencia de Estudiantes, la Residencia de Señoritas (current headquarters of the Fundación Ortega-Marañón) and the Instituto-Escuela (today the Institute of Secondary Education and Public School Ramiro de Maeztu), all of them located in Madrid.
The project aims to stimulate the connection between cultural heritage and the landscape with contemporary creation through photography, based on the concept of "place of memory", coined by Pierre Nora as "an abstract notion, purely symbolic, aimed to unravel the dimension rememoradora of the objects which may be material and, above all, immaterial", that is to say, from the world of ideas.
