The cycle "The education at the crossroads", which was promoted by the Institución Libre de Enseñanza (ILE) and the Capítulo Español del Club de Roma (CECoR), will be developed through a set of telematics and/or face-to-face meetings over the last quarter of 2021 and the first half of 2022. The cycle is articulated in thematic axes, and has been conceived from the idea shared by the promoter institutions that see education as a key factor for the progress and well-being of societies.
This idea, the main hallmark of the ILE and deeply rooted in the activity of the CECoR, is today widely shared. And is that in which the Institution was based, since its creation in 1876, its approach to education as an engine of social change. So since then, the project has been to move towards a comprehensive education for all and throughout life. That is, people who are able to govern his life with autonomy and initiative, and that will allow them to become critical, creative, caring and tolerant.Likewise, it is also based on a reality that was already made explicit in 1979 in the Report to the Club of Rome Learning, horizon without limitsand which alluded to the increasing complexity that is observed in all areas of personal and social, as well as on the markets and the geopolitics of the time. Almost half a century later, the complexity is exacerbated and amplified and changed daily. At the same time that it is perceived that the future comes faster than you think is necessary a continuous reinvention of all walks of life.
This leads, therefore, to rethink how should be the education in the present world, or to consider what they are and how they should overcome the crossroads facing. And that should help solve the riddle that Aurelio Peccei mentioned in his foreword to the Report quoted as saying that it was necessary to learn difficult to learn what we should learn. What that forces you to develop a mode of innovative learning, that is, on the whole, anticipatory, participatory, and is able to combine integration and autonomy.
